What kind of transmission would be best to go with a chevy 305?

What are you using the truck for, and what kind of driving do you do? Automatic, I would go with a TH350. Cheaper, and takes less power to run than a TH400. Why a 305? Pony up a few bucks more and get a 350 or 400. 305's are generally gutless turds.

Due to price and availability, I would go with a TH350.

That was mine, and it's purple camo! I was going to wash it, but John told me to leave it dirty. Everyone said it was pretty cool.

find a cheap 454 So i'm going to put that in my truck instead of the 305. Would a th400 be a better tranny for the 454, or is there a better tranny for it?

If you go with a 400, you need the matching case and adapter. The 400 has a 32 spline, where the 350 has a 28 spline. I have a 400, simply due to reliability and durability. 350's take less power to run, but I want bulletproof!
